Photoshop CS5 & Pure Player JPG Problem

Postby PanoNutz » Thu Jul 15, 2010 9:59 pm

Photoshop CS5 no longer writes certain metadata when saving images to JPG / JPEG files, and when using these jpg files in a Pure Player environment, the image is not displayed.

Here's is a snippet on why jpg files are different from link to this thread:

"Leaving out the obsolete metadata means that Photoshop JPEGs are now EXIF compliant and work with more devices and applications than they used to."

"Nothing to fix in Photoshop - but your other app has a problem reading metadata that needs to be fixed."

Just a brief follow up to say it appears the issue is Pure Player is looking for the old "JFIF" metadata which is no longer being saved in the JPG files by Photoshop CS5.

FWIW, I do see anecdotal evidence the lack of JFIF is giving various people headaches trying to figure out whey their images are being misinterpreted by a variety of different applications i.e. print instructions, sizing, resolution, etc.

Immervision has agreed with the conclusion above and states:

"This JFIF tag was used by PURE Player PRO for Java to detect the image type. As it is not written in jpeg files created with CS5, the image was not detected as a JPEG and thus not loaded in the viewer."

"This issue will be fixed in the next version of PURE Player PRO for Java (version 1.14.2.0). This new version should be released soon."
