Lens Design with Dispersion Engineered Metasurace

Over the past year, lens designers have seen many new technologies growing but metasurface is certainly special. This talk will discuss how and why it is so fascinating for the lens design community. I will also describe how we can combine the power of modern optical design software and metasurface model to build new unprecedented tools to support raytracing through metasurfaces. Particularly, we will discuss about dispersion of high contrast metasurface for vis and NIR applications. It will also highlight that a metasurface is far from a diffractive optical element in terms of dispersion engineering.

Presenter

Simon Thibault

Simon Thibault is professor at Laval University since 2008 and Immervision’s Principal Optical Designer working on cutting edge wide angle lens, applied research, as well as leading in pure research. SPIE and OSA Fellow, he is also the chair holder of the NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Optical Design supporting a world-class infrastructure for optical training (http://lrio.copl.ulaval.ca/) and sits on several international conference program committees at OSA, SPIE and IEEE. Particularly as Chair of the next two International Optical Design Conference (IODC, 2021, 2023).
