Anamorphosis and Magnification

Panomorph lenses are the only wide-angle optics that are designed with anamorphosis and/or magnification. By controlling distortion through optical design, a panomorph lens can cover more pixels on a sensor and can be customized to magnify any desired zone of interest.

Lens Design

Panomorph lenses are developed using patented anamorphosis and/or targeted distortion concepts. Anamorphosis provides optimal sensor coverage and targeted distortion magnifies objects in zones of interest. One or both of these patented innovations can be used during the optical design stage to create an unlimited array of panomorph lenses to address the vast amount of applications.




Panomorph lenses use optical distortion to magnify zones of interest and increase resolution (pixel density) on the sensor. By controlling distortion efficiently, panomorph lenses are able to spread the resolution along the sensor surface. Distortion can be customized to address specific application requirements such as viewing, analytics, etc.

Anamorphosis is a patented concept which provides optimal pixel coverage on a camera sensor. On a 4:3 sensor, a panomorph lens with anamorphosis has up to 33% more sensor coverage compared to other wide angle lenses with a circular footprint. Anamorphosis stretches the image to optimize coverage on a rectangular sensor.

Hyper-anamorphosis is at the cutting edge of panomorph technology offering more flexibility and horizontal magnification. Like anamorphosis, which optimizes sensor pixel coverage, hyper-anamorphosis covers even more area on a camera sensor.

Anamorphosis + Central Magnification

The anamorphosis and central magnification combination offers more sensor coverage and resolution in the center of the field of view. This combination can be used on scopes for minimally invasive surgery. It allows surgeons to have a wider view inside a body cavity and up to 4 times more resolution in the center of the field of view.

Anamorphosis + Mid-Zone Magnification

The anamorphosis and mid-zone magnification combination provides more sensor coverage and better performance in between the center and periphery of the field of view. This combination is the ideal solution for 360° imaging on mobile devices. Whether the device is held in a user’s hand or lays flat on a table, the user’s face will still be captured with high resolution.

Anamorphosis + Peripheral Magnification

The anamorphosis and peripheral magnification combination provides more sensor coverage and better performance at the periphery of the field of view. This type of combination is effective in video surveillance, pipeline, automotive and gastroscopy applications. Distant objects captured with peripheral magnification appear bigger and more visible.
